MJWA Watershed
The greater
watershed area is approximately 102 square miles and is entirely
within Northampton County. It includes all of Upper Mt. Bethel,
Lower Mt. Bethel, and Washington Townships and portions of
Plainfield and Forks Townships. This region is characterized by
numerous small, yet significant, streams including Martins Creek,
Little Martins Creek, Jacoby Creek, Mud Run, Oughoughton Creek,
Allegheny Creek, and Slateford Creek, as well as over 28 miles of
frontage along the Delaware River to which all of the streams
ultimately discharge. The region is also home to the Appalachian
Trail, Minsi Lake Vernal Pools area, Mt. Jack, and Mt. Bethel Fens,
a rare wetland complex maintained by the Nature Conservancy. Upper
Mount Bethel Township contains approximately one-half of Northampton
County’s forty-four areas of statewide significance. Numerous ponds
and lakes are also scattered throughout the region including Lake
Minsi, Echo Lake, and Lake Poco.
The Martins-Jacoby Watershed Association is based out of
new environmental
education and visitor's center known as
the Lower Mount Bethel Welcome Center, located at 7701
Martins Creek/Belvidere Highway, Bangor, PA 18013.

MJWA formed in
2005 by residents concerned about unsound development
within the region and its lasting impacts on our water quality,
natural resources, landscape, and local economy. The organization
continues to grow in response to the interests and concerns of landowners
and stakeholders throughout the watershed.
MJWA is a nonprofit,
501c3 corporation in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The mission of the
MJWA is to
develop and promote stewardship for the protection and preservation
of the high quality land and water resources throughout northeastern
Northampton County. Please read our
MJWA
Brochure for more information.
With financial and technical assistance from its many partners,
MJWA has embarked on and completed numerous watershed management and
protection projects.
The keystone of MJWA's success is its base of enthusiastic members. Read more about the benefits of joining
